Native to Canary Islands
Euphorbiaceae – euphorbia
Flowers Jan-Sep
Succulent shrub up to 80 cm tall, secretes milky latex. Rosettes of slim oval leaves on the stems. Greenish-yellow flowers at the apex of each twig, eventually bear round fruits. Vernacular name appears to come from the indigenous language of the Canary Islands. During the 20th century the latex was occasionally collected for export for the production of chewing gum.
