Endemic to Canary Islands

Arecae – arecaceae

Thick, straight trunk, without branches. Dense crown, with dark green leaves up to 7 m long. Whitish flowers. The female palms produce yellowish-orange fruits arranged in clusters, smaller than those of the date palm, called támaras. Támaras are not edible but are useful for livestock. Wood is used to make many crafts. The sap is used to make guarapo and palm honey on La Gomera.
