Copa densa, con hojas verde oscuro de hasta 7 m de largo. Flores blanquecinas. Las palmeras hembra producen frutos de color naranja amarillento dispuestos en racimos, m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os que los de la datilera, llamados t\u00e1maras. Las t\u00e1maras no son comestibles, pero son \u00fatiles para el ganado. Su madera se utiliza para elaborar numerosas artesan\u00edas.
