Tamaricaceae – tamarix
Flowers in summer and fruits in autumn.
Shrub can grow up to 6 metres tall, with light evergreen scale-like leaves that have a coating of salt. Feathery clusters of pink-white flowers. Black dye can be obtained from the tree. Wood is very hard and was used in boatbuilding and farm implements. The salty leaf-litter is not tolerated well by other plants.
